When I lived in Israel, conversations
among people with differing language
capabilities very quickly and naturally adjusted to
the needs present. In one such
conversation a woman spoke English and
Yiddish. Two others spoke German and Hebrew and
could
understand Yiddish. I spoke English and German and
simple Hebrew but I could not understand
Yiddish. The way it worked was one of the ones who
understood Yiddish would relay to me in
German what was said. I would try and speak Hebrew
but if I wasn't understood I would be
asked in German what I was trying to say. English was
not part of the conversation. We
chattered for a long time successfully communicating
as a team.
I discovered later that the ones who relayed the
things I didn't understand from the Yiddish
into German did not actually want to speak German.
Although German was their first language,
due to the pain of having participated in the
Holocaust, it gave them pain to speak German.
Many in the kibbutz where I lived had identifications
tattooed on their arms from the
concentration camps. My Hebrew teacher was one who
purchased ships and had them outfitted
to bring Jewish people out of Europe to what is now
Israel. Unfortunately, it was illegal
for them to step on to "The Land." They had to jump
into the sea at Caesarea and hike over
the hills by night and disperse.
When one starts to play a game of
pool, the balls are congregated within the
triangular
guide which helps "form" them for the start. As soon
as the game starts, one player hits one
ball toward the triangle and the balls move all over
the table. As the game proceeds balls
go into the pockets of the table and fewer balls are
left. If a person came into the room
and looked at the table and saw for the first time,
he would not be able to figure out what had gone on
before his entrance.
The situation would change, however, if the rules of
the game were explained, and a summary
of each play that had happened since the start of the
game were given, along with feelings
of gain and loss, triumph and pain.
We were not there with you as the degradation of who
you were began, followed by
misfortune, mistreatment, and unspeakable things,
culminating in not even wanting to speak
your mother tongue (where that applies). But we can
see something happened. I walked in
very late, I wasn't even born yet. But the testimony
of words and feelings and actions
speaks to me volumes. In America we say, "Before you
criticize me, walk a mile in my shoes."
I only walked next to you when life was better for you
and I could see what happened.
I can only say I am so sorry that this happened to
you. You might answer, "You didn't do
it, why are you sorry?"
I am sorry because we have done so many things that
have convinced you that you are on your
own and must protect against all those who are
remotely belonging to Christianity.
There was a time when such bad things were done to me,
an alive Christian, by "Christians
in name only," that I got them confused with God. In
anger I lashed out at God and said
some strong, irrevocable things. I thought God was
one of them. In the moment that I spoke
so negatively to him, he spoke back immediately, "Oh
my child, it's all right to hate hate,
just don't harden your heart to me."
In a moment, I realized that the bad behavior shown by
these "Christians in name only" was
not from God and it was hate and I was given
permission to hate hate. He just requested
that I keep his character separate from their
character and be open to him. In just a
moment I changed from being conflicted to the core of
my being to being free to relate
to God freely, apart from their behavior. And on both
sides we professed to be Christians.
How difficult it must be to be in two supposedly
different religions and hear what God said.
Since the Internet can be anonymous, you could be
looking at and reading this page and I
will never know it. I ask you to consider that we have
the same God and that he wants to
straighten out some very terrible things in how we
relate to him and to each other, all
the while bad things continue to happen that we cannot
control. But we find out something
new, something we had not known before, that changes
our lives from inside.
Yes, I think I understand how upsetting it can be to
you, that I would want to share
Jesus with you, as if you were a person to add to my
catch, as a person would add a fish
to a string of fish. As if I disrespected your faith
and your religion. As if you had no
God. As if I knew better than you what is good for
you. As if I could decide for you.
My motivation is actually different. No one told me
about Jesus, that he could come into
my life. I went to church and no one told me. When
finally I somehow found him, I
became angry and distrustful of those who should know
but didn't share with me. My
motivation is that no one be without the knowledge of
Jesus regardless of their decision
to partake or not to partake. My motivation is to
share where there is openness.
I do not have to know who you are. It is only
important to me that I reach out.
As I search on the Internet for material that could
show the choice Jesus presents to us
in Yiddish, I find none. I do not speak or understand
Yiddish, therefore, I must wait.
If you are able to read any other language, perhaps
you can find what I would like to provide
on another language page. If you feel that you can do
this, you could ask God about what
you're reading here. Give him a chance to move in your
life and say something. You can
also ask that he answer in a way that makes sense to
you and that will not scare you. If
God is love and he loves you, he's going to be OK with
your reaching out to him for truth.
You never have to tell me. If someone does come up to
you and starts talking with you about
this, after you've given God the go-ahead to speak,
try and remember, he might be answering
you. I refer you to the movie
Bruce Almighty. He asked God for a sign and a
truck full
of signs pulled directly in front of his car so he
almost hit it. Yes, it was a movie, but
it makes a point.
Jesus is Lord
1 Corinthians 12:3 Amplified Bible (AMP)
3 "Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking under the power and influence of the [Holy] Spirit of God can [ever] say, Jesus be cursed! And no one can [really] say, Jesus is [my] Lord, except by and under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit."

Daniel 7:13-14 Amplified Bible
13 "I saw in the night visions, and behold, on the clouds of the heavens came One like a Son of man, and He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. 14And there was given Him [the Messiah] dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away, and His kingdom is one which shall not be destroyed."
